It has been on my mind a lot for awhile, but with the recent purchase of dozens of Qurans by Wasatch Presbytarian Church, to have distributed for free in some bookstores to anyone who asks, it has just been gnawing away at me to the point that I can’t just sit still and not DO anything any longer.

We usually try and publish all comments and queries unless we feel it  proves a hindrance to the sender or our site. Thus, i apologize; I got a loooooooong email from an msa member. Half of it comprised of rambling and communication that may be viewed as ‘pseudo psycho-intellectual babble (or self-talk.)’ I am sorry but we are not a bulletin board for you to ‘sound off’ or ‘get back’ at any person or institution.

MSA — its not about intermingling, its about the banner in which you are doing it under.

Inshallah I hope you are doing well.
Imam I had a few questions/concerns which I hope inshallah you could answer.
With the upcoming conference a sister suggested that we put up a curtain to separate the men from women.
But then that would be conflicting with families who wish to sit with each other.
Past years in the middle we would have families and children who would sit with each other and that worked as distinct separation from the single men and single women.
Also someone brought up having the curtain run half-way for the sisters who do not wish to be behind a curtain, another sister commented saying “that would make certain sisters uncomfortable and look bad if they are the ones who do not want to be behind the curtain. They will look like sisters who want attention…so why not make it equal and have it run all the way?”
With all the argument I finally suggested if we are aiming to prevent intermingling then why don’t just use the two day conference as one day for the Men and the following day for the women, or even just have it at the Masjid”

Please Imam let us know the correct way to prevent ourselves from falling into sin, and gaining the greatest amount of pleasure from Allah (SWT) as we aim to do good for ourselves and our community.

Our next meeting is upcoming Friday at 3:30pm it would be great if you could join us and address this issue.

I am non Muslim student (I am XXXXX (name and other information withheld by site due to privacy matters). During the past few years, i have noticed that i am not dedicating myself to schoolwork like i use to. I am being distracted very easily and always seem to be things, that i am not suppose to. I try to make myself study everyday for a little bit to keep the pace going, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I use to be really good at getting my homework done and understanding the materials, but over the past years, i have noticed myself not understanding what i am reading, not understanding any of the material and just not being able to concentrate. As much as i try to make myself focus, i get distracted and cannot comprehend anything that i have learned. It’s been really hard on my studies and my grades. I was wondering what steps i can take to become a better student, and get back on track. Thank you.

‘separate meeting for sisters and brothers’

We recently had a meeting in MSA and A few people suggested that we should have separate meeting for sisters and brothers. We would like to know what’s islamic ruling for meeting where both genders are present to discuss how to raise awareness about Islam on campus and how to serve Muslim students on campus and muslim community in state of Utah.
