student matters matter

Q: Assalaamualaikum

I am non Muslim student (I am XXXXX (name and other information withheld by site due to privacy matters). During the past few years, i have noticed that i am not dedicating myself to schoolwork like i use to. I am being distracted very easily and always seem to be things, that i am not suppose to. I try to make myself study everyday for a little bit to keep the pace going, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I use to be really good at getting my homework done and understanding the materials, but over the past years, i have noticed myself not understanding what i am reading, not understanding any of the material and just not being able to concentrate. As much as i try to make myself focus, i get distracted and cannot comprehend anything that i have learned. It’s been really hard on my studies and my grades. I was wondering what steps i can take to become a better student, and get back on track. Thank you. Continue reading

‘separate meeting for sisters and brothers’

Q: assalaamualaikum

We recently had a meeting in MSA and A few people suggested that we should have separate meeting for sisters and brothers. We would like to know what’s islamic ruling for meeting where both genders are present to discuss how to raise awareness about Islam on campus and how to serve Muslim students on campus and muslim community in state of Utah. Is this allowed or Not?                   Time: Thursday May 13, 2010 at 10:10 pm Continue reading

love love love

Assalamu Alaykum,
In class we discussed Imam Al-Ghazali’s definition of “love.” One of the definition’s included loving something because of what it offers in the hereafter or loving something based on a ‘condition’ or a personal agenda. My question is: 1) When we think of Jannah and the love of Allah, do we only love Allah based on going to Jannah(which is a condition) and 2) how do we make it so the ultimate goal is the love of Allah itself? 3) How do we increase our love and God-consciousness?

JazakAllah and may Allah reward you, this has got me really reflecting!

The Friday Prayer time

Non Hanafi view

It was narrated from Anas ibn Maalik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to pray Jumu‘ah when the sun had passed the meridian. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (no. 904)

1-Imam Al-Shafi says in his Famous Book  called the “Al-Umm” (the Mother of Sciences) volume 1 page 223

The Contemporary scholars like sheikh Salman al-Odah say”After Zawal is the strongest and the most authentic opinion”

The late Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sh.Bin Baaz said”it is better to pray after zawal to avoid controversy because majority of the scholars indicate that it should be done after zawal

That is what Imam Nawawi headlined a chapter in his commentary of Sahih Muslim “Chapter: Time of Friday is after Zawal of the Sun

Ibn Rajab in his commentary of the Bukhari being a Hanbali states a statement by Imam Ahmed that it (Friday Prayer) should not be done but after Zawal.

The Kuwaiti Islamic Ministry encyclopedia of Fiqh states

“The strongest opinion followed by the majority is that the time of Friday is the same time of Zuhr Prayer
