The modern day dua farce – give me pocket money so I can give you a prayer

Q: what is your opinion of people that go from mosque to mosque listening to duas  and quran completions seeking dua thinking this dua would be accepted? (text)
Answer: Imaan is not based on duas alone. Nor is it based on listening to mere recitals.  It is based on intention coupled with action based upon sound Aqeedah. Saying Ameen to every prayer is not going to make anyone necessarily a good muslim/ah. Rather, saying Amen and not reforming ones ways can lead towards greater sin and hypocrisy.

Example: ‘oh Allah (SWT) save me from gambling and alcohol.’ Thereafter a person books a night at the casino. Such Ameens only warrant if not demands the Wrath of Allah (SWT.)

Allah Certainly Knows Best.

  1. another example you mentioned on the 27th of Ramadan was; those kind of people who says Amin when the Sheikh/Imam says, ‘Oh Allah (swt) protect us from zina’ and that person has a bunch of non-mahram girls/boys on their cell phones or facebook. May Allah protect us all and keep us in Siratul-Mustaqeem and increase our Iman. Allahumma Amin.
