One response to “moon and the current gloom

  1. As-salaam-alaikum. The Prophet (saw) never told us to follow Mecca or Medina to start fasting. In addition, there is a story of when one was in Mecca and another in Medina and the Prophet (saw) told them NOT to start the fast based on what he (saw) sighted in the one city but, to wait because they had not sighted the moon in their city. Also, we are not wrong if we end up having 29 fasts, this seems to perpetuate when our Eid-ul-fitr sighting ends up less than 30 fasts. This is also permitted in Islam and does not mean the community leaders were wrong in their decision. However, I like Imam’s answer and of course, respect it. The leaders have taken the burden of decided the fasting month of Ramadan and the holiday so, we all do not need to be experts or divide our Ummah. May Allah (swt) give us unity when the world is so divided.
    Jazakullah Khair and Ramadan Khareem.
