Muslims of America condemn and denounce violence and perpetrators of all types of attacks upon the innocent, regardless of nationality, gender, class, etc. We view such brutality and cruelty against the spirit of all religions. Muslims view such savage behavior as appalling and against the moral conscience of humanity. Like all religions sent down by Allah the Greatest, Islam too promotes peace, harmony amongst our neighbors and bordering countries, upholds the essence of morality and common good of every type that functions to inspire positivity for all of humanity on every level.

Thus, such senseless carnage, massacre and bloodshed demonstrates enormous human lapse, to say the least. Such behaviors should be denounced by all.

As Muslims, and as humans, we should pray for all, including the innocent victims of the Fort Hood attacks. We pray to Allah (subhanahu wa ta’aala) that a complete investigation upholding the principles of justice in dealing with the perpetrator of such an evil crime be done in an egalitarian manner. We also pray that more innocent people are not victimized as a result of such a heinous crime. Ameen.

Eid Al Adha Crescent

The astronomical moon of Dhul Hijjah is projected to be born on Monday, November 16, 2009. Astronomers predict that the crescent cannot be sighted anywhere in the world on November 16. They maintain that the crescent is likely to be seen in the USA on Tuesday, November 17. Based on this information, Eid al-Adha is expected to be celebrated on Friday, November 27, 2009, insha Allah. In accordance with our established policy in the Islamic Society, we will set the date for Eid al-Adha by the Shariah-guided principle of “sighting the crescent with our eyes.” Our Hilal Committee will meet on November 16 and 17 in an effort to sight the crescent, and the information will be available on our website. Should our date for Eid al-Adha be different than Saudi Arabia’s date, and should some members of our community wish to celebrate the Eid with Saudi Arabia, we will gladly accommodate these members by arranging the Eid prayer at Khadeeja Islamic Center. Q. How is khla defined? I accepted the khula. I regret it.  If I give it back are we remarried? Would i have to remarry someone else before I marry my ex again?

A. Khula is when a woman gives x (e.g. Her mehr) in exchange of y (divorce) in a given majlis (gathering-sitting.) Upon the husbands acceptance of x (e.g. mehr), khula would have said to be taken place. It would be in the category of one Talaq-e-baain. This is also known as an irrevocable divorce. The nikah is thus over. You would have to sit through what is known as the iddah period. If during this iddah period you both wish to get re-married, then a new nikah would have to be performed with a new mehr.

Based on what you have descried, there would not be a need for you to marry another man before marrying the man you have gotten your Talaq-e-baain from. Just do a new nikah with a new mehr.

(This Talaq-e-baain would always remain as a count of talaq in this given marriage of yours. Having a new nikah with this spouse would not remove it. If your husband pronounces more talaqs, this talaq that was issued via khula would also be part of the count, so act accordingly. Should this marriage be fully terminated, and you later married someone else, then you came back to this given spouse of yours, the matter would be different.)

Q. Also how do we greet people for hajj? Is it three hugs? I notice for eid-ul-fitr you were doing one hug. Is a hug even necessary?

A. If one is comfortable hugging, they should do so. It is neck to neck. Not stomach to stomach as the trend suggests. It can be done one time. If you wish, you can even do it three times. If you wish to eliminate the hug and replace it with a handshake, you are at liberty to do so.

First make the salam, then wish them well.

Q. I am intending to go to hajj. My problem is that when my feet rub they tend to bleed. I was told that I can use any medicine. Is this true?

A. You can only use cream or medicine that is void of fragrance.

Q. Can a person lift their hands and make dua at the cemetery?

A. Yes provided the hands are lifted without the intention of one praying to the dead

We pray to Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) not the man/woman in the grave

Best to turn oneself away from the deceased, so as to not create a resemblance of one praying to the dead

If one cannot change direction due to the crowd, then one can also make dua with the hands upon the sides so as to avoid  resemblance to praying to the deceased.

Q. Our musjid is run by a dictator. He is not liked by 90% of attendees. He answer is the same. I can do as I like. Our imaam of 15 yrs got fired and he hired a friends child who also quit on the 27^th night of ramadhann. How can we get the change we want? We are losing people daily. Our membership fell 30% in a year. It just does not feel like the musjid anymore….. (cut of, too much unwanted detail that may be misinterpreted in Utah, even thought you are not from our kind state.)

Answer:

1. Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) gives us leaders in the likes of ourselves. Ask yourself, how different would you be if you were in his position?
2. Go as a group and tell him that you have his best interest and the best interest of fellow Muslims in mind. Convince him as Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) being your witness that you want the best for all
3. Convince him that you folks want to do the right thing
4. Ask him for the kind of help he seeks in making the place more accepting and accommodating to all people
5. Show him the list of complaints through people that he gets along with and respects
6. Be fair in your dislike
7. Gain the assistance of a good mediation party

1) i was wondering if its okay to talk to a gay person? 2) since we go to school with them, sometimes they professor just replace us as study partners. 3) is it okay to talk,be friends with them or study with them?

1) It is not encouraged to talk to any person that deviates from the truth and flaunts that negativity upon others. To communicate with any deviant person should be with the intent to convey the message of morality and ethics to them. To be polite whilst attempting to accomplish halaal functions would be permissible when there is no alternative. To indulge in futile talk would contradict Quranic injunctions

2) Talk to them to the extent that is necessary. If you talk about gay behavior, only talk to that extent that would allow you to communicate the message of a healthy lifestyle to them. For this is also a form of conveying our religion to them. To convey a message ignorantly hurts Islam. Do not go into unwanted dialogue with people that deviate and live a lifestyle that is viewed as religiously unnatural

3) To voluntarily do so once they have refused to reform adverse habits while an alternative better choice exists would be to help in this sin. A believer does not do that
