how will i know if Allah has forgiven me?
Q. how will i know if Allah has forgiven me? (Comment box)
A. Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) would insha-Allah forgive all his servants that have committed crimes against Him, provided their repentance had been sincere and coupled with change its appropriate change. The quality of Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) does not take pleasure in punishing that which He has created. If the creation persists on wrongs, then they are demanding punishment upon themselves. Allah being just would treat them accordingly.
As Br.Yassir Butt quoting Imaam Ahmad on this issue on our site has stated:
“O people repent to Allah I make Istigfaar and repentance to Allah in a day 100 times”How do you know your Tawba has been accepted?
The scholars say “The Deeds and linked together like a chain”
If after your Tawba you have a significant life (style) change in the quality and quantity of your deeds, you should have a clarity (confidence) that insha Allah it has been accepted (your forgiveness).
Allah Certainly Knows Best.

As sala’amu alaikum
If a man indulges in sins and excesses, but is hopeful that he would be forgiven without doing anything good, then, this is self-deception, mere illusion and false hope. Abu ‘All Rowzbari has said, “Fear and hope are like the two wings of a bird. If they are well balanced, the flight will be well balanced. But, if one is stunted, the Right would also be stunted. And, to be sure, if the two are lost, the bird will soon be in the throes of death.”
Ahadith and Quraanic verses give hope to the believer in the Mercy of Allah for forgiveness of his sins; Allah is full of forgiveness, pardon and covering mistakes of people, in spite of the people’s persistence upon transgression: “And never give up hope of Allah’s Mercy. Certainly, no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy, except the people who disbelieve.” (Surah Yusuf (12): 87)
Allah has praised the people of hope and fear in the following verse:
‘Is one who worships devotedly during the night, prostrating himself or standing, fearing the Hereafter, and hoping for the mercy of his Lord (is equal to him who doesn’t do these things)?’ (Al Zumar, 9)
Hope then also demands fear. If that was not the case, one would be in a state of false security. Conversely, fear demands hope.
Hope in the Mercy of Allah should be accompanied by regret and remorse of the heart upon the sins committed, sincerity, hastening in repentance and avoiding sins as is clearly manifest from the following verses of the Quraan. Allah says: “And whosoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allah’s forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surah an-Nisa (4): 110)
“O’you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance.” ( Surah Tahrim (66): 8 )
