travel and marriage

Asslm Moulana
I have 2 questions.
Q. 1) Can a female go aboard to university and her milk brother to be a mahram? It will be for about 4 years.

Answer: If seeking such education would be necessary, then by all means she can travel with her milk bother.

If the knowledge sort is not necessary, then too she could travel with him, but such a situation would not be recommended. Travel in Islam must have a purpose intended for a specific positive outcome for self and humanity.  Traveling for mere play and not needed information and education would be disliked in Islam.

Q. 2) Can a girl marry her mothers milk brother?         Time: Saturday June 13, 2009

Answer: No.

am i better then you? or you better then me?

Q. Assalamu Alaykum,

My friend(who recently reverted) and I were talking about our experiences with other Muslims. We both wear hijab(Alhamduillah) but we find that some Muslims will go out of there way to not be around other Muslims or be ‘labeled’ as a Muslim. But then there’s the opposite extreme, where Muslimah hijab’s are extremely rude and critical of others. What should we do?

O you who believe, do not let a group (of woman) laugh (ridicule)  at another group, perhaps they (the mocked group) may be better then you (and your group). Nor let women (taunt) at another women, by chance the one jeered at may be better than you all,  and do not find error amongst yourselves nor call one another by (wicked) nicknames; wickedness (and doing evil) is a bad (thing to aspire towards) after (bringing) faith …..  (48:11 understood meaning shared)

In all cases, to judge anyone wrongfully would remain incorrect. Those not wearing hijab must not judge those that do wear it as superior or inferior. People refusing contact with those that ascribe towards religiosity do so at times due to their level of personal embarrassment or failure to comply with Islam’s simple religious requests.

To insist upon not being with believes due to their level of religiosity is tantamount to hypocrisy. For Muslims are called upon to be with one another, and always help one another in matters of good. We should not ignore such petty Muslims. We should try our best to at least greet them, and be the best we can to take advantage of the Ayah on being the best of example to all of humanity.

Those that wear the hijab must view those that do not wear it as people that really want to wear it but cannot do so due to reasons beyond their control. For them to be rude or arrogant would deprive them of the necessary piety and the full reward and barakah of doing good.

Those that do not wear the hijab must be proud of those that do wear it. Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) sometimes forgives people for their shortcomings due to their good thoughts and wishing well towards others.

To marginalize those that do not wear Islamically bound attire would be wrong if done without a valid reason.

Congratulations on your reverting to being the best. May Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) help us all to do good, practice good and preach good, Ameen.

masah or wudhu

Q: Aslm
Should a person have both legs amputated, how should wudhu be performed? Would leaving out the legs make wudhu complete?

Answer: You started your query with the word ‘should.’ We are hoping it was a typo, for we detest hypothetical queries.

The above ayah states that the feet must be washed to the protruding ankle. Since the feet and ankle are not present, washing of it would not be needed — for it does not exist. Nor would masah be required.

Black magic, white magic not always the same as circus magic (part 1)

Comment/Question:

Assalam Alaikum
My question is concerning black magic and its removal.  A quote by Ibn al-Qayyim stated that, “Removing the charm and neutralizing it is the most profound treatment.”  My concern is the way people undo black magic.  It seems that in order to undo it, more shirk is committed.  For example, in countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan, (Somalia, Iraq, and Africa) I have heard people go to a certain individual who claim to undo the magic.  I have serious doubts in these people because number one they take lots of money, making it into a business.   Secondly, how would that individual know if black magic was done without communicating to the jinns just like the person who does the bewitching?  Thirdly, they make things like taveez and special products to put in water and drink it and so forth.  Also wouldn’t it be possible that the ones that undo the black magic also does black magic?  To me this all sounds wrong.   So it seems that undoing the magic is not always the best option. But at the same time even
the Prophet (S) undid the charm while reciting  Surah an-Nas and Falaq.  However, in his case it was revealed to him that magic was done on him, he did not go to people in search for it.  So it seems that it best for us to simply let the magic be as not to commit shirk? Many people disagree with the option of just letting it be. I know some magic is severe and leaving it can cause harm, as I have experienced it firsthand.  But isn’t it all the will of Allah and that we should put our trust in him alone? Aren’t our prayers, duas, and the Quran essentially our first method of removal and the most effective instead of undoing the charm?
I apologize for the long question, I have a terrible tendency of writing a lot.

(Jazakumullah)                Time Sent: Tuesday June 23, 2009

We have sectioned the above and placed it for a best response into four parts. Each part has been independently answered for greater understanding of the matter. May Allah Protect us all, Ameem.

Q. A quote by Ibn al-Qayyim stated that, “Removing the charm and neutralizing it is the most profound treatment.” (How would a person explain this quote form a sharia point of view.)

A. The meaning of Ibn al-Qayyims words viewed from a Deeni perspective: treatment is highly preferred for those who are suffering from every type of illness and cannot bare its pain. Such patients must seek a cure without violating the commands of Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) and mixing elements of shirk into their treatment. Elements of shirk, kufar would include having complete trust in another human, trust in a jinn  for a cure, reciting or consuming products prohibited by religion known as kalimah-e-kufriya, killing a cow in the name of a Jinn, killing an animal and letting it rot, eating parts of an animal which remain haram for human consumption, etc.

All major Uluma prefer treatment for the average person over sickness if the seeker of cure uses the gained cure and energies to remember Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala). The helper of the sick must cure as prescribed by Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) with the usage of methods linked to the Quran and Sunnah.

To cure in any other manner would be viewed as Kufar by some, shirk by others, etc. Haram methods or desperation for a cure is not a justifiable option in Islam. Anything done through haram would remain haram. Thus, a haram cure would not bring benefit and would be filled with sin for a person who has attained it in a sane, mature, and knowing state of mind. Black magic, white magic not always the same as circus magic (part 2)

Q.  I have heard people go to a certain individuals who claim to undo the magic.  I have serious doubts in these people because number one they take lots of money, making it into a business…

A. Some people can undo ‘magic,’ however, the methods used sometimes are in conflict with spiritually healthy Islamic practices. Some cure the ill with what can be termed as a ‘timed cure.’ This means, they have a jinn(s), their jinn binds an agreement with the jinn of the person being attacked. The agreement would be that the attacking jinn or party must leave the (ill) affected victim. Often, this departure remains for a specified period of time or until oppressor finds that their work has been accomplished. E.g. 6 months cure rather then a complete cure, etc.  Once the time has elapsed (for example, the six months is up) the patient undergoes bouts of sickness, a re-infection or even possibly a variation of the original illness occurs. Sometimes, the illness gets worse, for the jinn or sender of it takes greater revenge on the patient, more so if the oppressor can monitor their victim. Such monitoring need not be in person, it can be through 3rd parties, phone conversations, mutual friends, etc.

Don’t be fooled with magic and its quick fixes:

‘Magical’ cure by desperate person’s helps them acquire its benefits on multiple levels: success in business, help for men/woman to get married, gain admittance to particular schools, escape prison sentence, etc. Once the ‘time capsule’ runs out, the beneficiary of the task must go for reinforcement to the one giving cure (witch doctor) for what can be viewed as a greater dosage of the pseudo cure. It becomes a cyclical relationship between patient and (witch) doctor, often turning doctor and patient away from Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) and onto the  super highway of shaytan (jinn). Thus, in essence, this cure is filled with manipulation of Jinn and humans; it’s deceptive in nature of its ‘success’ and sometimes rife with financial/social gain which is against the sharia. Much of this gain is temporary. For the jinn and those associated with it never award anyone success, except if they can later exploit a given situation. Thus, in modern times, uluma has said it well: best to abstain from such ‘magicians.’ (click here to continue reading)

Black magic, white magic not always the same as circus magic (part 3)

Q. they make things like taveez and special products to put in water and drink it and so forth.  Also wouldn’t it be possible that the ones that undo the black magic also does black magic?  To me this all sounds wrong.   So it seems that undoing the magic is not always the best option. But at the same time even the Prophet (S) undid the charm while reciting Surah an-Nas and Falaq.

A. Taweez (amulet) in itself is not haraam so long as it is words from quran and sunnah. However, due to the temptation of wealth, many quacks have in their amulet codes that which do not give you a lasting cure. Thus, you are forced back to the ‘witch’ doctor, so as to advance their careers. Some can cure but dabble in shady dealings limiting a full benefit for patients.

From the Hadith attached to a group of sahaba that cured a leader on their travels, we learn, to pay a person is allowed, provided the cure is complete. The cure for the given illness cannot be ‘time fixed’ for a given duration so as to manipulate persons and the jinn for personal or other gain.

One should not just limit themselves to reciting only Surahs AnNaas and Falaq, but look into other duaas and ayats the prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and sahaba have recited to help reduce evil sent by others upon self. Also, if one seeks cure from evil, their only option is to live a righteous life. Although one may suffer, living a righteous life brings ease to calamity. (click here to continue)

Black magic, white magic not always the same as circus magic (part 4)

Q. how would that individual know if black magic was done without communicating to the jinns just like the person who does the bewitching?

A. This question shows insight to your knowledge regarding people that are involved in ‘curing’ techniques that can sometimes be shady.  May Allah(Subhanahu Wata’Ala) always bless you towards such insight, Ameen.)

No person can ever know if ‘magic’ was 100% done on themselves or anyone else, for such information is zanni (guessed, approximated). Our information would not be qatee (absolute, without breakage) like that of revelation.

However, symptoms do emerge from people that suffer from ‘magic.’ One need not have jinn to know of such details. Example: a person all of a sudden becomes extremely repulsed by a employer/spouse/parent for no apparent reason or justification, an offensive smell is sensed that no other person can ever smell, person starts to sleep 20 hours a day without any adverse health related diagnosis, the father beings to look like a cat/cloud, the fathers presence is denied, etc . To accept these symptoms as final would be incorrect. To believe it never happens is wrong. Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) has given certain gifted people the ability to detect such occurrences without them having control of Jinn. And due to such person’s piety, when they make a prayer for the cure of an individual, their duaa is accepted, and sufferer is cured or a reduction in pain occurs. Other times, people can detect it; however, they suffer from its consequences, but live manageably as a result of turning in greater amount to Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala).

Reality:

The one curing can also be the one that harms if piety is lacking. In modern times, this is the problem many are faced with, thus we agree with you, it’s best to not deal with such people. At times, the one who medicates also harms so as to get the patient back for a cure.

Need not always suffer:

One need not let the matter just be, nor live in suffering. Suffering is wrong in Islam. One must find a way to solve wrongs, ‘for health is better than illness.’ (Hadith) It is through good health we can remember Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) greatly. Thus, we must resort to cure from pious people who live their lives in accordance to Quran and sunnah. People that don’t take favors from you, but are willing to give you the necessary aid you seeking. If they do charge, it should be with a guaranteed cure for that specific illness.

Additionally, as protection from people linked to such filth, every morning one should try and recite the manzil, or at least listen to its recording. These are words from the quran. The Manzil remain as a set of words to shun the evils of shaytan and his associates.

We too agree with you, it is best to seek help from a pious person, since they are far and few, its best to leave the matter to Allah (Subhanahu Wata’Ala) with personal recitals from the Quran.

Manzil

1) listen to this, or you can listen to

2) Manzil (Recording may have interruptions… not due to a jinn attack on the site we received the data from but due to connection issues at the time when we observed the recordings)

troubled sister that wants her brother back…

Q. My brother has stopped spending time with the family all together. Every time we have a day out planned he will never join, making excuses that he needs to go to the university or whatnot. This frustrates me a lot. He is a really cool guy but now to me it seems like his life and his family is his laptop, t.v, and i pod. How can i get him to be like a big brother again? troubled sister that wants her brother back…

A. Family relations in Islam remain important. To break off without just cause is against Islam.

Your query lacks sufficient data. Naturally, due to your caring and concern, you are to present only your point of view. However, if he is a university student,  his reasoning towards partial detachment may possibly be valid, more so due to his studies  if he is seeking admittance into a highly impacted program.

Possible solution:

Rather than being frustrated as to his choices and reasoning, it would be better to have a family hour or a family day. This is time agreed upon by all, wherein each member would be present to share part of themselves to maintaining family values and ideas.  It would be a time wherein each person agrees to be present and makes a promise to be part of. (For starters, try this out and let us know how it goes in uniting with your ‘bro.’)
